Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

In November of 2007, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia contacted Precision Mechanical Services to handle an emergency service call. Emergency service calls are a common occurrence in the mechanical services field. In 2007, Precision attended to over 200 off-hour service calls for CHOP alone. On this particular occasion, however, two steam regulators failed completely, causing a total steam loss to two primary buildings. Because Precision is the primary service contractor for all CHOP's Clinical, nutritional and research refrigeration, as well as all of their KKT Kraus chillers and Liebert systems, we were well positioned to deal with this challenge. Nevertheless, this situation presented particular difficulty because both the 1/3 and 2/3 steam regulators needed to be replaced immediately. These parts normally have a one to two-week lead-time, but Precision acquired the necessary parts in the early evening hours the same day. Utilizing a combination of speed and mechanical ability, Precision formulated a plan of action and safely and efficiently executed that plan to solve the problem. By midnight of the same day, the regulators were installed and functioning and both buildings were back on line.
